| The Missionary Ridge Camp #63, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War held its regular August meeting at Wally's Restaurant in East Ridge, TN at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 22, 2009. See minutes below. |
Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Aug. 22, 2009 Meeting Call to Order: At 1:45 PM ET, Camp Commander Mark Kemp called the meeting to order.
Present: Bill Massey, Mark Kemp, Mark Steele, Brian White, Charles Engle, Bob Dobbs, and West Davis.
New Business: Camp Commander Mark Kemp presented a check for $100 from Missionary Ridge 63 to SCV Camp 507 as a contribution to their project of erecting a monument to a number of Confederate and Union troops (probably cavalry) killed in a skirmish near Trion and buried there. Not much is recorded or known regarding this action as it preceded the Battle of Chickamauga by a few days. Apparently the Union troopers were overlooked in the search for remains to be reburied at a National Cemetery as was the custom. The burials are unknown, both Union and CSA. The Camp 507 was gracious in their invitation for MR 63 to participate in the dedication of the monument at Trion Sep12, 2009. We agreed to assemble at Wally’s at 9 o'clock on 12 Sep., and drive to Trion. (Email later to confirm). 2. Jeff Hightower (gajohnnyreb@bellsouth.net) - I, Mark Kemp, sent him an e-mail about this meeting. He lives in Locust Grove Ga. Wants to do a grave site service when he gets a grave marker for, George Elsea. Buried in Sale Creek Cemetery near Soddy-Daisy. Jeff has a grave stone. Jeff could not attend meeting because of work. 3. Treasurer reported $585.00 in bank. 4. Sons of Confederate Veterans, N. B. Forrest Camp #3 contacted M. Kemp about replacing the Federal flag honoring the Union burials in the Confederate Cemetery, Chattanooga, Tenn. ( When done we should write them a note of thanks). 5. 2011 will start the 150th anniversary of war. Old Business:
