Date: December 8, 2008 1:04 pm To: Missionary Ridge Camp #63 Sons of Union Veterans Our next meeting will be on Saturday December 13th at 1:00 PM ET at Wally's restaurant in East Ridge, Tn. Our main business will be election of officers for the year 2009. In an earlier e-mail I asked for volunteers who would like to be nominated for a position. So far, I have only heard from two. Those being: Charles Engle for Sec./Treas. Bill Massey for Chaplain. There are three more positions to be filled. They are:
Camp Commander. I can't serve again as Camp Commander after serving two terms. I think that the Senior and Junior Vice commanders can move up, but I'm not sure about that. We'll find out at the meeting, if not before. Let me know of any nominations or of a volunteer for these positions. Camp dues are also due for 2009 and are $22.00. These may be sent to:
Charles Engle We thank Mr. Scarborough, also a Camp member for continuing the website. It is located at: http://www.suvmrc63.org I would like to wish everyone in the SUVCW a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! With F.C.& L. and Thanks,

Staff Sergeant Donald Fletcher- is the son of James Fletcher- Camp Commander. I know they would appreciate hearing from any of us back here in the States by getting a Christmas card with a few words of encouragement and thanks, so if you have time, please let them hear from you. Date: December 2, 2008 10:15 am To: Missionary Ridge Camp #63, Sons of Union Veterans, Past and Present Officers Brothers-- We are at that time of year when we need to be thinking about electing new officers for the SUV for the year 2009. I know all of you have served in one way or another in the past. We need a nomination committee to appoint some nominees to the posts. I will serve on it and I need 2 more volunteers to assist me in this. If I don't get any volunteers, I will appoint someone to help me. So let me hear from you. Also there may be someone who may want to volunteer for a post. Even if you are not on the committee, I would like to hear from you on someone you may like to nominate. Our Christmas party and officer election is coming up soon on Dec. 13th at Wally's Restaurant in East Ridge, Tn. at 1:00 pm ET, so that date is getting close. I will send a reminder message out about a week before our meeting. Thank you. with F.C.& L,

Date: November 3, 2008 1:22 pm To: Missionary Ridge Camp #63 Sons of Union Veteran's: Our next meeting will be on Saturday November 8th at 1 PM ET at Wally's Restaurant in East Ridge, Tn. After finding out earlier that the Dalton Veteran's Day parade would be on this same day at 11 AM, I sent out an e-mail to see if the Camp would rather participate in the parade than to just have a meeting. Most of the replies were to have a meeting since they wouldn't be able to march and two replied that it didn't matter to them and a few have not replied. So we will have a meet ing at Wally's. I would like to remind everyone that it is coming time to be thinking about election time for the Camp. I have served for the last two years and your Camp Commander and have felt it a great honor to be have been able to have done it, but Sec./Treas. Ingle says according to the rules, it is time for someone else to take this job. The coming election is one of the many things we can discuss at the meeting. I hope to see many of you at the meeting and please bring guests and new prospects for SUV membership. With F.C.& L,

Date: October 13, 2008 2:14 pm To: Missionary Ridge Camp #63 Sons of Union Veteran's: After sending out a request for Brothers to help pick out a date and place for an October meeting, some replied and had a busy schedule for most of the month and some did not reply at all. I picked November 8th at 1:00 pm E.T. and Wally's in East Ridge, Tn. as the meeting place and thinking at the time the Veteran's Day Parade in Dalton would be in the same week after November 11th (Veteran's Day) and it would be on November 15th and we could discuss who would be able to participate in it on the November 8th meeting. A few days after I sent out the message about the meeting being on the 8th, I got a message from Bro. Wes Davis that the Veteran's Day Parade will be observed on November 8th in Dalton. My question for the Camp is: I would like to know who can partic ipate in the parade? I know some can't march but would like to observe our boys in blue in the parade. It is no problem to cancel our reservation at Wally's Restaurant and meet and eat somewhere in Dalton. So let me hear from everyone in the Camp about this and what you think so I can send out a new meeting message if the majority are in favor of attending this parade and also so that Bro. Harvey can post the update on our award winning website. I would like for Bro. Wes Davis to find out the details for the parade from the Dalton authorities and re-enactors such as the time and meeting place and let me know. I have sent this message just to the ones who normally attend our meetings. Thank you.

In F, C & L, SUVCW CALL TO ACTION! Brothers of the Department of Tennessee, SUVCW: We have been given a golden opportunity to increase our membership in this great order and the Department needs your help. A recruitment table has been reserved at the upcoming Battle Reenactment of Chickamauga in September and we need volunteers to help man it in conjunction with the members of the Department of Georgia and South Carolina. If you are interested in providing your time for the benefit of the Department, I encourage you to contact myself or your camp commander who will provide me with a list of names. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. The Department of Georgia & South Carolina is expecting a large turnout in support of this drive so, lets show them what we are capable of.

Date: August 1, 2008 To: Missionary Ridge Camp #63 Sons of Union Veteran's: Brothers, Our next meeting will be at Point Park at Lookout Mountain, Tn on August 9th at 1:00 pm et. Bro. Tommy Smith has arranged for us to gain entrance without having to pay. We are to meet Bro. Tommy at the Lookout Maintain Battlefield Visitor Center shortly before 1:00 pm et. Directions and parking information: Go up Lookout Mountain on the Scenic Highway or Ochs Highway 58 and then as you go up, follow the black and white signs for Point Park. While the parking spots last, you can park in the free National Park Service spaces behind the Visitor Center. Once these are full, you will have to park in the Town of Lookout Mountain's metered spaces on the street. Make sure you keep the meters fed or you will be ticketed. Have some quarters handy. I'm sure we will have a lot to discuss. One of them being the National Re-enactment of the Battle of Chickamauga in September. I have heard from our Commander of Tn. and Al. Kenneth Early and he will be there as a Provost Marshall with the Army of the Cumberland. I had stated the problems the Camp has had in recruiting new members to him and he says there will be a Recruitment Booth for the SUV there in would like to have us help out with it. I stated we will probably have several volunteers to help out. I hope to see all of you there and if there are any questions, let me know. With F.C.& L,

Bill & Tod,
Below is some welcome info that was forwarded to me regarding a new
Department organizational meeting in May. Tod, Please forward to all your
contacts in the Department of Tennessee and get a good count of any who
would like to attend. I would like for us to have a big showing in support
of this new Department because this is a big deal and is the first showing
of a Union Fraternal Organization in that area in quite some time. I know
the C-inC will be in attendance along with his Chief of Staff. Let me know
if you have questions.
In F, C & L
Gentlemen!
I am pleased to announce that the application and fee to form a Department
have been forwarded to the National Secretery and the C-in-C has approved
the formation of the Department of Georgia and South Carolina.
Please note that the organizational meeting will be at 10am on May 10th.
We have a meeting place arranged at the community center of Laurel Grove
Retirement Community 2899 Five Forks Trickum Rd, Lawrenceville, GA 30044.
Laurel Grove will be serving us lunch so please let me know how many
delegates from each camp will be attending.
At your next meetings please elect your delegates and have your secretery
issue delegate credential cards to them. These can be obtained from the
National Website.
Here is my educated guess, based upon the last data I had of the total
delegates from each camp who would attend.
General McPherson Camp #1 (2)
with the C-in-C and his Chief of staff plus the honor guard I am guessing
we would have 19 for lunch. If the camps fill there delegate totals and
elect two alternates each the total could rise to 27, so you see, I need
your estimates to ensure we have enough meals to go around for lunch.

Hi Commander Jim,
I have taken the liberty to create the Camp's own website:
www.suvmrc63.org.
Whenever anyone types in that website address, they will
find the Camp's web files that have previously been part of the
Chattanooga Civil War Round Table's site. I respectively request that you
pass along this information to all the camp's members. The camp's files on
the Chattanooga Civil War Round Table website will?soon be deleted and a
link to the camp's new website will be all that remains.
Visitors will need to go to this site initially by typing in the above
address. I recommend saving it as a favorite on their computers as well.
Members may even want to create a?shortcut?icon on their main screen that
will take them to the site immediately.
The Camp's new site is hosted by godaddy.com. I've established the account
with them for two years. This is my "contribution to the cause," and it is
indeed my pleasure to maintain as long as the Camp approves.
All members are encouraged to?contribute useful information to the site.
Information can be sent to me via email to scarhdkj@aol.com or to my home
address: 411 Brownwood Circle, Ringgold, GA 30736. Hopefully our site will
be visited often and maybe we will get new recruits from it too!
Will talk later,

I consider it an honor and privilege to again serve as Camp commander. I will do my best
to preserve and build up the camp as the past commanders and officers have done. I want
to thank all the officers and members for their efforts that we as a Camp have done in the
past year in keeping the loyalty and fraternity of MRC #63 going in such things as Memorial
Day Observances and Headstone Dedications.
The next Camp meeting will be Feb. 2nd at the Gun and Relic show at the Dalton Convention
center. We will set up a recruitment booth Saturday morning to get new membership and have
a Camp meeting at 1:00 PM ET. We will also work the recruitment booth on Sunday. If anyone
can volunteer to help out with the recruitment table, we will appreciate it.

This is the final announcement for the Department of Tennessee Encampment.
You may have received it from other sources.

---------------------------- Original Message ----------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Greetings one and all,
I just wanted to send out a final reminder regarding our upcoming
Department Encampment on Saturday, 26 January. The attached flyer has
most of the pertinent information, and so far the response has been
fantastic. I am most happy to say that we have 30 folks already planning
to celebrate with us that evening at the dinner. Of course, many more are
heartily welcome to join us!
Department Council will meet briefly at 10am that morning, with Encampment
Business to begin at 10:30am. We'll take a break for lunch and then
return to complete remaining business. Following that session, we'll have
a special tour of the Alabama Department of Archives and History's (ADAH)
Civil War flag and artifact collection, which you won't want to miss. The
following link to the ADAH website provides directions on how to find the
building, which is located across Washington Avenue from the State
Capitol: http://www.archives.state.al.us/location.html.
Meeting room location is on the third floor, directly accessible by
elevator from the main lobby. Parking available along the street outside
or in lot off Adams.
Promptly that evening we'll be hosting the encampment dinner and Wilson
Camp 10th anniversary commemoration at the Maxwell Air Force Base Officers
Club, with many special events there too. For those with military status
(i.e. active/reserve/retired), a military ID is all that is required for
base access. For all others, we will compile a list of visitors to
expedite the base entry process. We will provide directions to the dinner
at the encampment. More information on Maxwell AFB can be found at the
following website: http://www.au.af.mil/.
A quick note regarding attire. In general, nice but not overly formal.
For the encampment business session, coat & tie are suitable as well as
Union uniforms. For the evening, gentlemen may wear coat & tie or dress
Union uniform. Ladies may wish to wear elegant casual or appropriate
period clothing for the dinner.
If you haven't made lodging arrangements yet, the following are
suggestions: Embassy Suites, located downtown Montgomery near the train
station Capitol Inn, located downtown near Maxwell AFB and I-65
(apparently one of our camp members got a good military/retired rate)
Maxwell AFB Lodging for active/reserve military and retirees (on a space
available basis, call first).
Let me know if you need additional suggestions or information. The Wilson
Camp is eagerly looking forward to hosting everyone and sharing a very
memorable occassion with you. My contact phone numbers are (334) 356-4526
at home; (334) 202-5411 by cell.
